Planning your Las Vegas elopement is exciting, but one of the biggest questions couples face is:

"How much photography coverage do we actually need?"

As a Las Vegas elopement photographer, I've found that most couples underestimate how quickly wedding-day time disappears. Between travel, ceremonies, portraits, outfit changes, and exploring iconic locations around the city, a timeline can fill up much faster than expected.

If you're trying to decide between 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, or all-day coverage, this guide will walk you through what a realistic Las Vegas elopement photography timeline looks like—and how much time you actually need to create the experience and photos you're dreaming about.

The Biggest Mistake Couples Make When Planning a Vegas Elopement

Many couples create a list that looks something like this:

  • Getting ready photos

  • Ceremony at Little White Chapel

  • Las Vegas Strip portraits

  • Fremont Street photos

  • Desert sunset portraits

  • Outfit change

  • Champagne celebration

  • Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign

The reality?

That's usually not a 2-hour elopement.

Travel, parking, walking, crowds, outfit changes, and simply enjoying the experience all take time. The more rushed the timeline feels, the less opportunity there is for candid moments and creative portraits.

The galleries that feel cinematic, adventurous, and uniquely Vegas almost always come from having enough time to slow down and experience the day.

How long does it take to get around Las Vegas?

One of the biggest factors in your Las Vegas elopement timeline is transportation.

While locations may look close together on a map, travel time can add up quickly:

  • Little White Chapel to Fremont Street: approximately 15–20 minutes

  • Fremont Street to the Las Vegas Strip: approximately 15–30 minutes

  • Las Vegas Strip to Red Rock Canyon: approximately 30–45 minutes

  • Las Vegas Strip to Valley of Fire: approximately 60–75 minutes

Parking, walking, and crowds can easily add additional time, especially on weekends and holidays.

Low Stakes Package (1 Hour)

Perfect for:

  • Little White Chapel weddings

  • Ceremony coverage only

  • Family photos at chapel

  • A few couple portraits around the chapel afterward

This package is designed for couples who primarily want the ceremony documented. You'll leave with beautiful images, but there isn't enough time to explore multiple Vegas locations.

Play Your Cards Right Package (2 Hours)

Perfect for:

  • Ceremony coverage

  • One or two nearby locations

  • Couples who want a simple Vegas experience

A typical timeline might include:

  • Ceremony

  • Chapel portraits

  • One Strip location or One downtown location

This package works well if you're focused on a couple specific locations and don't need extensive variety.

However, if you're dreaming of Fremont Street, the Strip, and the desert, two hours disappears surprisingly fast.

All Bets Are Off Package (3-4 Hours)

This is the sweet spot for most Las Vegas elopements and the package I recommend most often.

Why?

Because it allows enough time to create a gallery that actually tells the story of your day.

Instead of rushing from place to place, you have time for:

  • Multiple iconic Vegas locations

  • Outfit changes

  • Creative portraits

  • Candid moments

  • Sunset timing

  • Transportation between locations

This is usually where couples start getting the variety they originally imagined and is reflected in their final galleries.

High Roller Club Package (6 Hours)

Perfect for couples who want the complete Vegas experience.

This package allows time for:

  • Getting ready

  • Ceremony

  • Multiple portrait locations

  • Sunset

  • Fremont Street after dark

  • Reception or after-party coverage

If you want your gallery to feel like a documentary of your entire day, this is the package for you.

Real Las Vegas Elopements, Real Timelines

The timelines above aren't hypothetical examples—they're based on real Las Vegas elopements and adventure sessions I've photographed.

Every couple has different priorities, but one thing I consistently see is that the most relaxed, story-driven galleries come from having enough time to fully experience the day.

Case Study: Jeannette & Luis (4-Hour Engagement)

Jeannette and Luis envisioned an adventurous desert engagement session featuring a vintage white Mustang, sweeping desert views, and portraits during the best light of the day.

Over the course of several hours, we photographed throughout golden hour and sunset, allowing us to create a gallery with a wide range of images—from bright desert portraits to dramatic sunset photos. Because we weren't racing against the clock, we could explore different locations, experiment creatively, and let moments unfold naturally.

The result was a gallery that felt cinematic, romantic, and uniquely tailored to their vision.

Case Study: Oscar & Wellbe (6-Hour Elopement)

Oscar and Wellbe's desert elopement combined several experiences into one celebration. Their day included a desert setting, a vintage white Mustang, a beautifully styled tablescape on the hood of a vintage white mustang, and Las Vegas portraits.

Having several hours of coverage allowed us to document not just the ceremony and portraits, but also the details and atmosphere that made the day special. We had time to capture the changing light, create intentional portraits, and tell the complete story of their elopement.

Their final gallery felt less like a traditional wedding photoshoot and more like a cinematic visual narrative.

These are the kinds of timelines that inspired the examples throughout this guide. They illustrate why most couples who want multiple locations, varied lighting, and relaxed experience typically benefit from at least 3-4 hours of coverage. Looking for more inspiration? Why More Time Creates Better Photos

More coverage isn't just about getting more images. It's about creating a better experience—and that directly impacts the quality and variety of your photos.

When you have extra time built into your elopement timeline:

  • You can wait for crowds to clear instead of settling for busy backgrounds.

  • There's flexibility if traffic, parking, or unexpected delays happen.

  • You have space for genuine moments instead of feeling like you're constantly moving from one photo spot to the next.

  • You're able to take advantage of the best light throughout the day, from golden hour to neon-lit night portraits.

  • Most importantly, you can relax and actually enjoy your wedding day.

With additional time, your gallery can include:

Different Lighting

  • Daylight

  • Golden hour

  • Sunset

  • Nighttime neon

Different Environments

  • Chapel

  • Downtown Las Vegas

  • Fremont Street

  • Las Vegas Strip

  • Desert landscapes

Different Moods

  • Romantic

  • Editorial

  • Candid

  • Playful

  • Cinematic

The result is a gallery that feels like a complete Las Vegas elopement experience rather than a quick photo session. Instead of simply documenting where you went, the photos tell the story of how the day felt.
